The article talks about depth vs. flatness in painting composition and how decisions of how to utilize it informed various stages of his painting evolution. A must read.

Wow! The nearly 100 paintings are hung and ready for everyone to enjoy for a preview this Friday, September 15th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. This show is going to be a blockbuster, not-to-miss event. These are all different paintings from the show earlier this year at the Cape Ann Museum, a testament to Charles's prolific and versatile output.
The show opens officially on September 17th at 12 p.m.
Special thanks to the crew of people helping to get the paintings over to the North Shore Arts Association and getting the hanging of the show underway. In the photos are Mike and Pam Graves, and Larry and Marilyn Swift.

Timothy Neill and Dale Movalli at the NSAA
The first Charles Movalli Excellence in Painting Gold Medal award was given to Timothy Neill on Sunday, June 25th at the North Shore Arts Association in Gloucester, MA as part of the second summer juried exhibition. The medal shown in the photo is the full-size master, which is a stand-in for the scaled down 4" finished medal which is currently being cast in bronze. The wonderful design was created by sculptor Daniel Altschuler. In addition to the medal, recipients receive a $200 award.
The same award will be given at the Rockport Art Association later in the season, and both awards will be given annually moving forward in the years to come. The Movalli estate is very excited to be able to support the local art community in this way.

On June 25, 2016, a memorial open studio and gardens took place for Charles Movalli, at his and Dale Ratcliff's home and studio in Gloucester Massachusetts. Over the course of the afternoon, several hundred people attended, and Dale gave talks to groups in Charles' studio.
