Welcome to the colorful world of Charles Movalli
Charles Movalli (1945–2016) was a pillar of the Cape Ann (and beyond) art community, a distinguished landscape and marine painter, a prolific writer, advocate for the arts, and a widely respected teacher.
Movalli's paintings have been showcased in solo and group exhibitions throughout the country and showered with awards; his writings on art and artists have been published widely, and his editorial skills earned him a 25-year stint as contributing editor of American Artist magazine. Often referring to himself as “the luckiest man in the world,” Movalli created a body of work which continues to inspire and delight painting enthusiasts.
Our Mission
The purpose of this website is to provide a definitive resource for all things Charles Movalli. To accurately capture Charles' life, work, as well as his enduring enthusiasm, energy, and intelligence which touched so many people is a daunting task that a website could never hope to do sufficiently.
Our aim nonetheless is that the site will serve as a valuable destination to get the latest information on events and from the blog, learn a bit more about Charles, view some of his paintings, read some of his writing, and watch him talk about his process. The site is a living project and will evolve over time; we hope to use it as a way to maintain the community that Charles established around himself. We truly hope you are inspired and enjoy your visit.
